It’s really happening – eek!
Come join us on Saturday 6 November for this free community event to explore the impacts of the climate crisis in Penzance and worldwide.
8 Penzance swimmers are attempting to become a synchro swim team in just 6 weeks to perform as “Out of Sink”.
Starting at midday at Jubilee Pool, there will also be free creative workshops, films, inspiration, and much fun to be had. Maybe even a chance to spot the St Ives Mermaid…
We’re coming together for the Global Day of Action for Climate Justice, taking place as world leaders meet at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP26).

Tides Reach 2050 is our chance to inspire global leaders to take action – not just for Penzance, but for everyone.
We know that global heating is causing the climate crisis. Rising tides and increased flooding are already affecting many around the world. Penzance won’t escape this. Let’s come together to get involved in projects making a difference, and protect what we love.
Prior to the event, Out of Sink will also be attempting a ‘land swim’ from Newlyn to Penzance, performing on land in areas that are likely to be regularly flooded by 2050. So keep an eye out for us in the morning too!

What’s the Global Day for Climate Justice?
The Tides Reach 2050 event is one of many events happening all over the world for the Global Day for Climate Justice, organised by the COP26 Coalition. Here are two more actions that you could also join in Cornwall:
PENZANCE MARCH:
Greenpeace are hosting a peaceful march in Penzance, meeting at the Newlyn Fisherman Statue at 11, coming to watch our performance, and then travelling on to Truro for the main Cornwall march. Anyone who agrees with Greenpeace’s values is welcome to join this march, you can do this here
TRURO MARCH:
A big march is planned for Truro, meeting at 1pm at Hendra Skate Park to assemble for a march, then meeting back at Hendra Skate Park at 3pm for a rally & speakers.
You can find out more about the Global Day for Climate Justice at the COP26 Coalition website, and read their powerful call to action, including these words:
“We are living through a period of multiple breaking points – from climate to covid to racism. We know that these crises not only overlap, but share the same cause. While no one can escape the impacts of these crises, those who have done least to cause them suffer the most… Climate justice recognises that all of our struggles lead back to the same unjust system. We need climate action that works for all of us, not just the people with the most money in their pocket.”
