Updated and improved for 2022: and now including 35 sustainable and original gifts for sea lovers.
You’ll find a gift for everyone who loves the sea, and every type of “blue mind”.
There are gifts for surfers, gifts for swimmers, presents for boaters, beach bums and posers, cliff stompers and seafood eaters. Along with meaningful gifts for mindfulness seekers, and great present ideas for plastic activists.
We’ve got stocking fillers and luxury gifts, and great sustainable gifts for all budgets from £1.75 to £175. You’ll find something for every age, from grommet to grandparent.
Many of the makers I’ve selected are based in Cornwall and the South West – and some are from further afield. Not only are the gifts for sea lovers that they sell lovely and often eco-friendly, all of the businesses or projects featured here love the sea, and many are actively involved in protecting it. None of the suggestions below are sponsored in any way. I hope you find something you love for the sea-lovers in your life!
And if you’re after beautiful books for sea-lovers, you might enjoy this post too.
Gifts for sea lovers priced £1.68 to £10:
FOR SAILORS, BOARDERS, HIKERS AND BEACHCOMBERS…
Tide Times: Tide Tables:  £1.68 (plus £1 postage)
Not the most obvious choice for a stocking filler, but this classic little yellow book might just be one of the most thoughtful, useful (and possibly even life-saving) gifts for sea lovers there is.
Tide Tables show the high and low tide times, sunrise, sunset – and the moon phase – all you could possibly need to make the most of the day in and around the sea.
My husband uses his to plan his surfs. Your lucky recipient might use it for a sailing adventure, to check the safe zones for a coastal walk, or to ensure they’re the first beachcomber scouring the tideline…
Plus, you get to choose your UK location from 709 different coastal locations from St Mary’s on the Scilly Isles to Burra Firth in the Shetland Islands. The gifting possibilities are endless: tide tables for your home or your favourite holiday destination? The beach you first played as a child, or where you fell in love… the possibilities are endless!
The books are made from recycled paper (apart from the outer card, but they’re working on that…), are fully recyclable, and come packaged in recycled envelopes…
FOR SWEET-SMELLING MERMAIDS
Sea and Stream: Murky Mermaid Shampoo Bar in a tin: £8
Lou, the founder of Sea & Stream, comes from a family of water lovers. She’s pulled together a fantastic online shop full of sustainable gifts for sea lovers and outdoor swimmers.
This is just one idea – a shampoo bar made from the UK’s very own Pembrokeshire seaweed, packaged in a handy tin.
It’s a stocking-sized gift that’s guaranteed to make the mermaid in your life smile – and smell sweet…! Shampoo bars are also a great way to reduce the plastic in your bathroom that might appeal to your sea-loving kids. Mine weren’t keen on washing their hair at all until we got them some shampoo bars to lather up a storm with!
Sea and Stream say “This deliciously scented, hand made shampoo bar contains only natural ingredients which are beneficial to the hair and scalp. It has powerful anti-oxidant and water binding properties, increasing hydration and working as a thickening and conditioning agent.”
Sea and Stream will also offer you a 10% voucher if you send them your old swim gear to be recycled.
FOR HOT SHOWER-LOVERS
Bloom Remedies: Sisal Eco Shower Mitt:   £5
Whether you’ve had a good old cliff stomp or a cold winter swim, a rub down with a friendly mitt in the shower afterwards will soothe a walkers aching muscles and wash those wild seas away.
Almost as effective as a roll in the sand for gently removing those layers of dry wind-and-sea-battered skin…
Marie at Bloom Remedies says: “Made from an ethical and sustainable eco Sisal fibre, this mitt becomes soft when wet, yet retains a rough texture to allow you to exfoliate your skin easily.”
FOR WELL-MATURED SOFA SURFERS
Surfer’s Path magazines:  £6+
The original Surfer’s Path, the most sustainable surf magazine of its time, sadly folded some time ago. In 2019, it relaunched as a reader-supported journal – with the same vision for sustainability and quality.
It makes a great gift for sea lovers because it’s a magazine that also appeals to non-surfers – I’ve always really loved reading it , even though I don’t surf myself. They had some teething problems in 2019, (managing the challenges of a pandemic and all), but are now back on track offering individual magazines or a pack of magazines – and my husband has loved the magazines he’s read so far.
Surfer’s Path say: “We are here to be kept for a lifetime of revisiting tales, and moments of photographic wonder. We know we’re not for the masses, but we are here for surfers of all ages who want to go a little deeper, a little further, and escape into pages for hours on end. “
FOR CHAPPED-LIPPED COASTAL KISSERS
Bloom Remedies: Cocoa butter lip therapy:  £10
Bloom Remedies’ delicious cocoa butter lip therapy is the perfect organic layer to protect luscious lips from the wind, sand and waves.
It’s also 100% natural, cruelty-free and vegan. And I suspect, very popular with all of us who love chocolate. (A diet alternative maybe…?)
Marie says “This intensive lip therapy helps minimise dry skin, nourishes and repairs cracked lips and keeps lips in top, soft and kissable condition…Â This lip balm is also infused with Benzoin essential oil – great for cracked skin and with a subtle vanilla flavour.”
Bloom Remedies are a small batch producer of award winning natural skincare and wellness products based in the wilds of West Cornwall. Their daily revive moisturiser is the only thing I use on my face, (apart from naturally-occurred sea water and seaweed) – but not before putting my goggles on, otherwise they just let in water!
FOR CREATIVE BEACH COMBERS
Dan Lewis: We Live Through Our Eyes digital print: £9.99
I first came across Dan Lewis’ striking creations at a Plastic Free Penzance exhibition at Jupiter Gallery in Newlyn.
Dan makes art prints of the beautiful flat-lays he creates from plastic he finds while beach-combing. Growing up, his father was a plastic technologist, and Dan was always fascinated by the material. Now, he likes to imagine his audience wondering about the life each piece of plastic led before it ended up on our beaches.
Dan says “There is a wonder and vibrancy present in the plastic flotsam I find during my beach cleans which mirrors our own lives, if we take time to look and to feel it. Circles are continual and universally found in nature so I feel they are the most poignant shape to re-represent the waste we produce that we once valued so highly. “
Gifts for sea lovers priced £13 to £25:
FOR SWIMMING SANDWICH-MUNCHERS
Poppy Treffry: Bathers Sandwich Wrap – £12.95
Poppy is an inspiring fellow mum who lives nearby, running a very successful crafty business, along with a gorgeous shop in St Ives: Poppy Treffry
I have this very sandwich wrap myself and I love it! It’s such a fun design, reminding you of the joys of swimming while you scoff your tasty snacks.
It’s also a brilliant way to avoid plastic in your picnic.
Poppy says “Bright and beautiful to bring a smile to your face. Perfect for much needed post-swim sarnies, this bathers sandwich wrap is ideal for keeping lunch and the seas safe with no single use plastics in sight!”
If you’d like some more ideas for gifts for sea lovers, you’ll find all sorts of lovely embroidered or gorgeously printed sea-themed goodies on Poppy’s website – including ‘tea by the sea’ tea-cosies, lobster totes, octopus badges, seaside tea-towels, embroidered artworks, purses and more…
By the way, if you’re after more ideas for open water swimmers, you might enjoy my gift guide for wild swimmers.
FOR WATER-LOVERS WITH COLD TOES
Celtic and Co: Sheepskin Insoles: £14
Any of us who make it into the sea, or even just stomp around near it, in the colder months know the feeling of numb toes.
These sheepskin insoles from Celtic and Co would add a touch of soft warm luxury to your wellies, boots or slippers (maybe even your high heels, who knows…?!) I’m putting them on my Christmas list!
Celtic and Co also aim to be as sustainable as they can. They say. “Celtic & Co. has always worked hard to minimise its impact on the environment by choosing natural, sustainable and organic fibres over toxic, synthetic and non-biodegradable materials… creating less demand for synthetic fibres but also not allowing our products to release harmful microplastics back into our oceans.”
For those with a bigger budget, Celtic and Co. have some gorgeous sheepskin slippers and boots, still handcrafted in Cornwall, that would be perfect to slip on after a cold day at the beach.
FOR SPIRITUAL OCEAN EXPLORERS
Sea Soul Journeys Oracle Cards  £16.99
If you know a sea-lover who’s also curious about mindfulness, self-kindness or spirituality, these oracle cards make an original and thoughtful gift!
Featuring stunning images of the ocean that soothe you immediately as you look through the cards, this oracle deck also explores four inspirational themes – Letting Go, Self-Compassion, Moving Forward, and Gratitude and Awe.
The guidebook suggests ways to interpret the cards – like choosing one each day and using its mantra as some ocean inspiration; or working your way through each theme when you need a little extra help in one area. It also offers ways to combine using the cards with other nurturing practices like journaling, meditation and mindfulness.
FOR NEWBIE SEA SWIMMERS
Cool Bathing: Learner Swim Cap  £16
Know someone who’s taken up wild swimming this year? This could be the gift for them!
Cool Bathing make all sorts of witty and collectible swim caps. And there’s no way I’d go in in the winter without a swim cap (or two…!)
Cool Bathing deliver their caps in biodegradable packaging, and are the company who are also currently up-cycling and recycling old swim caps via Sea and Stream and directly – so if you have any of those around, send them their way!
They say “This is a high quality, durable silicone swim cap with excellent hydro-dynamics. The seamless style can be worn by all, but is also suitable for those with long hair. It has surprisingly good visibility in open water, so ideal for beginners.”

FOR IMAGINATIVE ART LOVERS
Jago Illustration: Nocturne signed print  £18 – £28
Jago Silver is a wonderful illustrator based in Cornwall who creates all sorts of beautiful artwork, much of it inspired by the sea.
On his website, you’ll discover all sorts of mystical loveliness inspired by nature and the deep. You can purchase his work as beautiful prints, books, tins and even very cute camping mugs (perfect to fill with hot chocolate after a long beach day).
This evocative signed print is one of my absolute favourites of his. An A4 print is £17, and an A3 print is £27
Jago says: “This illustration is part of a series of work created on an iPad Pro using the Procreate software. It was created for the semi-annual exhibition The Cruel & Curious. This years theme was Nocturne and I made small book of drawings exploring a moonlit meeting between a lady and a whale….”
FOR GLOSSY-HAIRED BEACH-POSERS
The Coconut Bee: Surf Revival: Argan and Jojoba Repair Oil  £17.95
The Coconut Bee are based in North Cornwall, and make a range of all-natural products designed for life on the coast.
Those of us who love getting into the sea know the toll that all that salt water can take on your mullet – so a hair repair oil that locks moisture into your hair sounds just the thing!
The Coconut Bee say “Ocean nutrients are beneficial to a healthy head of hair (and a healthy mind we believe), so we recommend going in the sea as much as your heart desires and then following up with Surf Revival to maintain fully moisturised & healthy locks!”
FOR HARD FISHERMEN (WHO ARE ALSO A BIT SOFT)
And Living: Spira Friends Cushion: Frank: £19.99 – £25.50
Another of our lovely plastic-free Penzance shops, And Living, has all sorts of gorgeous gift ideas – and these snuggly sailor pillows have caught my eye.
A gift to amuse and delight the bearded seafarer in your life. Or perhaps a special pillow friend to cuddle up to when your bed is cold, and the night is lonely – we’re not judging…
You can also get Frank as a zip up bag or a tote to store your sailing treasures in for £12 each.
And if you’d prefer a slightly older model of fisherman as your sofa companion, check out the lovely Ebbot, also available as a bag…
FOR GLOBALLY-MINDED WATER-LOVERS
Blue Marble Locket: £19.50
Wallace J Nicholls’ “blue mind” movement launched a viral trend amongst water-lovers: sharing blue marbles.
Holding up a blue marble, we can imagine how our watery world might look from a distance – we’re reminded that we’re all connected by water, and that every action we take to support our planet matters.
To carry your marble and share it with others, Going Coastal have created some gorgeous lockets, handmade in Cornwall using sustainable sources, making them perfect gifts for sea lovers.
Lizzi says: “The bolts are sailing grade stainless steel… a mix of industrial and natural materials, making these items are beautifully tactile and giving them a nautical porthole-like visual appeal. The outer rings carry two ocean inspired phrases on the outside and a unique design on the inside which incorporates wave crests and lines symbolic of land topography – edges and gradients.  If you are gifting this item, you can flip the outer discs so that your ocean message remains a secret until the recipient opens the casing.”
Lizzi has also created a lovely blue marble light catcher too – or you can choose to buy a collection of three blue marbles for £15. Best of all, 50% of profits are used to support environmental charities – you get to choose between Surfers Against Sewage, The Blue Mind Fund or British Divers Marine Life Rescue (or all three!)
FOR OCEAN INSPIRATION-SEEKERS
Sea Soul Blessings cards and book:  £21
Our best-selling Sea Soul Blessings gift set is brimming with ocean-fuelled inspiration.
This beautiful 51 blessing cards and mini book set is a meaningful gift for loved ones in need of some extra sea.
During a challenging year, many have used Sea Soul Blessings as a special way to stay in touch.
The simple practice of drawing a Sea Soul Blessings card each day can be as rejuvenating as that trip to the sea – making it the perfect gift for sea lovers missing the water.
Draw a card for a daily focus, to accompany a yoga or meditation practice, inspire deeper conversations with loved ones, or as a daily reminder to pause and remember the bliss of being by the sea.
Your purchase also supports Sea Soul Blessings’ donations to projects that protect our seas (we’re currently donating to Surfers Against Sewage too!)
FOR BEACH CLEANING GARDENERS
Knot Fish Pots: prices vary from £20+
These lovingly handmade cute little pots would make perfect ocean-themed tubs for kitchen herbs or garden planters. A lovely gift for the sea-loving gardener in your life!
To make these unique pots, string, rope and fishing fear is collected from the beach in Porthtowan, Cornwall – preventing ‘ghost gear’ from returning to the sea, removing plastic and protecting wildlife. (There’s a mermaid basket tied to the entrance to the beach where local kids leave what they find on the beach…)
Then, each pot is constructed from 400 – 600 hand stitches or knots. They’re washed too – without any chemicals, sprays or pollutants, and packed in biodegradable packaging.
At the time of writing, Knot Fish Pots don’t yet have a shop but you can find pots to purchase via their instagram account.
FOR ECO-SAVVY OCEAN GARDENERS
A Seagrass Meadow – £20 per square metre
Seawilding is a Scottish charity working with local communities to restore native oysters and seagrass.
With this fabulous gift, you can create happy homes for sealife, and save the world from global warming – by donating to help them plant a seagrass meadow on behalf of a loved one.
Seagrass is a vital habitat for our marine creatures, but 90% of it has disappeared from around the UK coastline. It’s also a vital tool in the fight against global warming – because seagrass captures carbon up to 35 times faster than the rainforests.
You can find out more about their seagrass project at Loch Craignish over here, and see how beautiful these underwater meadows really are. We have a small section of seagrass meadow near us in Cornwall, and it would be wonderful to see more of that all over the UK and beyond.
FOR COSY BEACH-SNUGGLERS
Atlantic Blankets Random Recycled Wool Blanket: £25
Atlantic Blankets, run by Gemma and Al in Perranporth, make the most beautiful beach blankets – perfect for seaside picnics, winter beach-snuggling, or cold nights in front of the wire after a day stomping along the coast.
They offer blankets in all colours and styles, but these “random” blankets are my favourite because they use all the recycled wool that’s left over from all the other blankets that they make in the UK.
That means you never know exactly what you will get. But you can be sure that your blanket will be soft and cosy, reasonably priced, and a brilliant example of how to avoid wasting the tiniest little bit of anything.
Atlantic Blankets say “Each blanket is completely bespoke and boasts a unique colour medley just for you. Easy to look after and hard to be without, this effortlessly stylish blanket is meant for moments and made to last.”
Gifts for sea lovers priced £26 to £40:

They’re also portable, so great for entertaining kids while you’re attempting to do something else…
Blue Brontide say: “Encourage your children to use their minds through creative play… A fun way to practice concentration and patience with its endless possibilities of patterns created by sewing, lacing or tying… Easy to hold, light to carry on adventures, just perfect for little explorers.”

FOR STYLISH ECO-WARRIORS
Oh Give Me A Break: Chubby West Travel/Beach Bag: £27
A genius idea from our very own St Ives Mermaid, these ‘stuff it all in for a day on the’ beach bags are made to order from salvaged wind breaks collected around the coast.
The bags are also cleverly designed so that very little – if any – waste is generated during the making process.
Offcuts are used to create inner pockets or bag linings, thread is recycled, and where possible, the webbing is ECONYL (made from recycled fishing nets).
So there’s some circular economy brownie points for your eco-savvy loved one right there! To top it off, 10% of the profits are donated to the Sea Life Trust.
Not only will the lucky recipient look ever so stylish and brighten up the beach on the greyest of days, they’ll also be playing a vital part in clearing rubbish from our beach.

FOR ART-LOVING MERMAIDS
Sarah Bell Art: Gone Mermaiding Print: £35
This hand-pulled limited edition signed print is made locally by Sarah Bell, an artist and print-maker based in Penzance.
I often see Sarah walking along the prom rocking her signature 50’s-style headscarf and lipstick. She also runs popular watercolour, drawing and painting workshops from Morrab Library in Morrab Gardens.
In her online shop, she also has gorgeous retro-themed prints of swimmers, often seen at Penzance’s iconic lido, Jubilee Pool.
FOR GLAMOROUS WHALE-LOVERS
More Than Swim: Silver Whale Fin Pendant: £37
I love Sandra’s sustainable swimwear – her endangered turtle swimsuit is one of my all-time favourites – beautiful, long-lasting and comfortable.
But over at More Than Swim, she also makes a range of eco-friendly gifts, including this beautiful sustainably-sourced sterling silver whale fin necklace.
Made with a mix of recycled and ethically sourced silver; and sent out in recycled packaging, Sandra also makes a donation from every sale to UK charity, Ocean Generation, and offsets the carbon of her postage costs with a donation to PLANET.
Sandra says “Whales play a significant role in capturing carbon from the atmosphere; each great whale sequesters an estimated 33 tons of CO2 on average, thus playing their part in the fight against climate change.” This dainty necklace would make a lovely gift for anyone who loves whales, the sea, and protecting the planet.
FOR HOLIDAY BEACH BABESÂ
Gee By The Sea: Ocean prints: £40+
Gee’s another of the lovely creatives I’ve met through supporting Surfers’ Against Sewage…
She has all sorts of beautiful prints of her artwork in her shop to browse through.
Her artworks would make great gifts for sea lovers – because they’re guaranteed to bring those blissful holiday moments to mind, even on the coldest and most miserable of days.
Gee says: “I try and reflect the beautiful surroundings that I am so lucky to encounter everyday down in Cornwall. I use vibrant colours to bring life and excitement into my work and I am forever experimenting with different tones and values.”
This one is called “Beach Spotting in Cornwall”, and you can get a limited edition print for £40, or a framed print for a little more.
FOR ARMCHAIR ACTIVISTS
Good Gifts: Fish out the plastic  £34
Good Gifts donate to vital causes on your behalf and send you a gift card to share – it’s a powerful way to show the lucky recipient that you understand how much the preservation and protection of the sea matters to them.
This gift helps to fund conservation activities in the Philippines – with ripple effects all round the world. This is a gift for sea lovers who want to protect what they love.
Good gifts say: “The problem: discarded plastic, particularly fishing nets, catch and kill marine life. The Philippines, a paradise for marine diversity, is the third largest contributor to dumped plastic. A solution: pay fishermen to recover nets from the ocean to be turned into carpet tiles. Fisherfolk can earn incomes collecting and the manufacturing provides jobs.”
FOR TURNING TIDE-WATCHERS
Home of Juniper: Eco Moon Tide Clock £34
This tide-monitoring clock from Home of Jupiter is made from weather proof bonded recycled paper, by a small Cornish company in the U.K.
It’s delivered in a recycled box (though it does need batteries…) and is designed to be wall-mounted – because it’s water resistant, it can live inside or out.
Home of Juniper say “Ideal for predicting tide times and all important harbour tide heights. As the moon determines the size of the tides, this clock will help you predict how big the tide is likely to be. This eco friendly moon clock tracks the lunar cycle and is ideal for predicting tidal heights, peak gardening times and mood swings…”
Gifts for sea lovers priced £41 and up:
FOR SEA-LIFE-LOVING KIDS
ORCA: Orca Fin Friends membership: £42 per year
My daughter joined ORCA’s Fin Friends this summer, inspired by wildlife biologist and TB presenter Lizzie Daly‘s talk about ORCA’s work on Brittany Ferries.
Designed for kids aged from 4-11, members receive a fluffy orca cuddly toy, a certificate, activity book and lots of child-friendly facts about whales.
We’re due to get our first of two annual newsletters soon, but I think the biggest buzz for my daughter lay in signing up and knowing that she was supporting research about the marine mammals she loves – many of which we’ve even spotted from the ferry while travelling to Spain ourselves. She says:Â
“Being a Fin Friend is one of the most important parts of ORCA’s work because it gives them money to help the sea life. It’s important to have kids involved so that it can show that kids are helping as well, not just adults. And kids have really good imaginations and can think of amazing inventions that can help the sea…”
ORCAÂ are based in Plymouth – they monitor the oceans, and protect dolphins, whales, porpoises and their habitat.

FOR BEACH-LOVERS WITH COLD BITS
Pothies hot water bottle carriers: £75 – £90
I just came across these genius hot water bottle cosies made sustainably by Belinda from Pothies, and I had to add them to this post as an essential bit of sea-lovers’ kit…
Whether you’re having a winter stomp, sailing through cold winds, warming up after a cold swim, or suffering from back ache or period pains, these hot water bottle carriers offer an extra snuggly way to warm up those cold bits. Made on a smallholding in Wales, often from thrifted materials, one size fits all. They’re lined with blankets, made to last, and they even have pockets to cosy up your hands (or the hands of your friends, we’re not judging…) – what more could you want when you’re cold by the sea?
FOR SILVERY WHALE LOVERS
Cuttle-fish cast silver jewellery: £165 – £195
These beautiful one of a kind sterling silver necklaces are made by artist Vanessa Lannen.
Based in Cornwall, she casts these beautiful intricately detailed pieces in discarded cuttle-fish shells – you can see a little film of how that magic works here.

FOR BIG-HEARTED SEA-SHARERS
Give a family a week’s holiday: £700
Another beautiful idea from Good Gifts for those with a big Christmas budget and a big heart to share…
Show your support for your loved one’s faith that Christmas is about giving to those most in need – and give a struggling family the gift of time by the sea on their behalf.
This is a chance to share your love of the sea with others who need its magic the most. A gift for sea lovers that creates more sea lovers.
Good gifts say “Good Gifts give rise to laughter, tears, delight and deep satisfaction. Recipients tell us that a Good Gift stays longer in the memory. And for the ultimate beneficiaries there’s the reassuring warmth of knowing someone cares sufficiently to invest in their future.”
