Out of Sink synchronised swimming team is a group of 8 Penzance women of a certain age (in their 40s to 60s). They’re more enthusiastic than expert, but love sea swimming and our precious planet.

When the team began, only one of them had ever attempted synchronised swimming before, but they created their first ever performance in just six weeks – Tides Reach 2050 – to raise awareness of rising tides and the reality of the climate crisis. Watch the film of their performance below:

You can read more about Tides Reach 2050, and Out of Sink’s performance here – as well as in this fantastic blog from Sustainable PZ, and this article in Cornwall Live.

After a ‘land swim’ from Newlyn to Penzance, marking the perimeter of the 2050 flood plain, amateur synchronised swimming group Out of Sink perform ‘Tides Reach 2050’ at Jubilee Pool in Penzance on Saturday, November 6, as part of a Global Day of Action for Climate Justice.

One year later, having got a taste of the joys of synchro and its capacity to bring people together, the team continue to be prepared to make fools of themselves to inspire others to take action in the climate crisis. Now we want the leaders at COP27 to demonstrate the same persistence and commitment to working together – and to urgently coordinate efforts to save the planet. Here are some ways to help:

1. WRITE TO YOUR MP: ask them to fight for a real plan for 1.5% at COP27. (use this template if it helps).

2. TAKE ACTION: Join those campaigning for climate justice, and against new oil and gas: start by signing @stopcambo’s petition against Rosebank: Stop Rosebank petition.

3. CREATE YOUR OWN SUSTAINABLE ACTION PLAN: like those created by @sustainablepz

4. SPREAD THE WORD: We need to get more people pushing for urgent change at COP27. Share this post and others.

5. GET IN THE SEA: The more we connect to nature, the more capacity we have to protect it.

Follow Out of Sink on instagram and facebook, join their Synchro Sisterhood Sessions at Jubilee Pool, and get inspired to take action for the sea we all love.
