This is the ninth in our series of interviews to deepen the connections between all of us who love the sea and Sea Soul Blessings.
Today, we’re interviewing Georgia Thurston. She talks about using the sea, time in the woods, and time with friends to help manage anxiety; her love of the Celestine Prophecy; and learning to be patient…
Tell us a little bit about you:
I’m Georgia, I’m 33 years old, and I live in beautiful Cornwall.
What does nature, and the sea in particular, mean to you?
In recent years I’ve qualified as a forest school leader, and working locally in the woods makes me feel so calm.
When I wanted to find a natural way of calming my anxiety, being outside became very important to me.
“There is something about standing in the sea, be it rain or shine. It’s like every anxiety I have is being washed away with each wave that washes over my feet. I feel lighter, more awake. Nothing else matters but that moment, reminding me to be present.”
How do you feel on a good day?
On a good day I feel content, calm and in complete control.
How do you feel on a bad day?
On a bad day I feel lost, manic and overwhelmed.
Who or what is inspiring or influencing you right now?
Being in the woods this past few weeks and watching them change and let go so easily is inspiring me that I can do the same.
What do you worry about on a typical day?
I worry about my future, and that worrying about my future makes my anxiety bad.
Where do you find joy?
I find joy in being outdoors, the sun, the rain, the wind on my face!
What do you love to do, read, watch or listen to?
I love to walk in the woods or on the beach. My favourite read was the Celestine Prophecy – it changed my life and helped me see life differently.
I love all music – it’s my way of expressing my emotions when I can’t find the words to say.
What makes you cross?
I don’t like being judged by other people that makes me cross.
How do you look after yourself?
“I look after myself by setting aside time that’s just for me – normally catching up with friends to chat and drink tea. My cards always come out and my friends enjoy them too.”
What would you most like to change about your life?
I would like to learn to be more patient in my life.
What have you learnt about life that you wish you’d understood earlier?
“My life changed when I realised I could choose not to be angry, I wish I’d learnt that earlier.”
How would you describe Sea Soul Blessings in 3 words?
Sea soul blessings are beautiful, insightful and inspiring.
How do you use your Sea Soul Blessings? What do they help you to change?
I carry my cards in my bag with me everywhere I go (they even came on holiday with me and visited Nazaré beach in Portugal).
Whenever I doubt myself I use my cards to give me a little insight.
They normally help me take a breath and be calmer.
If someone was thinking about trying Sea Soul Blessings, how would you encourage them?
“The cards are like a little box of happiness – who wouldn’t want them in their bag!”
